Grading Policies for Exams
and Homework
Final Course Grade
A (100%-90%)
B (89%-80%)
C (79%-70%)
D (69%-60%)
F (59%-0%)
There are no "Incomplete" final grades given unless there are exceptional
conditions communicated and agreed to by the instructor prior to the final exam.
Exams (44% of the final course grade)
- There are two exams,
a Mid Term and a Final. Each exam is 160 points and is 22% of your final course grade .
Exams consist of multiple-choice questions, and program explanation/completion
questions. The multiple choice questions test your knowledge of
terminology and concepts. The program explanation/completion questions test your ability
to apply what you learned in the homework assignments.
- Exams are to be
taken at a CCAC Learning Center or other approved facility.
A list of locations and contact information is provided in the Distant
Learning Student Handbook available through the Distance Learning
information on the
CCAC Web site. Please follow the instructions concerning contacting the
center prior to the exam, and bringing a photo ID when you take an exam.
- Exams must be taken
sometime during the indicated week(s), otherwise they will receive a zero.
Exceptional conditions must be communicated and agreed to by the instructor
prior to the end of the scheduled exam period.
- Each exam is preceded
by an on-line chat session to help answer any questions that you have.
Students are encouraged to participate in these chat sessions or view the
archives. Use the "Communications" navigation button. See the schedule for
chat session dates and time.
Homework Assignments (41% of the final
course grade)
- There
are ten homework assignments. Most assignments will have multiple
components and are assigned 30 points each. Assign 0 + Assign 1 count as
one and are 30 points for both.
- Each
assignment is 4.1% off your final course grade.

for general information regarding homework
assignments and grading.
- Due dates
for assignments:- see Course
Schedule and check it frequently. There may be an adjustment to a
previously posted date.
Quizzes (15% of the final course
grade)
- There are 8 on-line quizzes typically
composed of 15 multiple choice questions, counting 15 points each. These are password protected
and you will typically be given a maximum time period such as 20-30
minutes to finish.
- The lowest quiz grade is dropped from
the final course grade. Each of
the remaining 7 quiz grades is 2.1% off your final course grade.
- You will get immediate feedback after you
complete a quiz.

and check it frequently. There may be an adjustment to a previously
posted date.
Optional Extra Credit
- There may be an opportunity for
extra credit bonus points as the semester
progresses. Bonus means in addition to regular work and may not
be used to replace missing or incomplete assignments.
These provide an
opportunity to earn additional points above what is listed above.
